This is definitely an educational blog. I'd never seen a dog dreaming before. Thank You.
I went through a phase last year of having fights in my sleep, kicking my attackers (I sensed my legs were definitely kicking OUT!). Fortunately, I didn't jump up and run into a wall. However, on moving into my flat I did fall out of a temporary narrow bed on the first night and cut my head on a nearby door. Of course, I pretended to students it was a slash cut from a fight - well 'ard.
I wonder if dogs 'know' they've been dreaming (probably not). What do rats dream about? I wonder how far 'down' the animal world we would find dreaming. Cockroaches?
thats an interesting question you have there! Rats would dream because they have spatial and episodic memory...so therefore I think they would dream about their journey to food and crawling into your rubbish bin.....
I think that because all living things, cockroaches included have an active nervous system etc that all react to external stimulus (like if you were to tromp about in a way that threatened their life...then they would wake up)...so i think everything that has a nervous system, the ability to feel etc would be able to dream to some extent.
I don't wear the red and white striped shirt and stand in crowds screaming 'come find me!'....but I do get lost on a daily basis and yes that really is my name
Thanks for posting the cool video. I wish my dog could do that!
